To date, not very many researches of the Goji berries have been conducted, but they will in all likelyhood become more common since the interest in those supposedly magical berries has increased so dramatically in the last few years. A study done in China indicated that cancer patients that were given Goji juice with their medication responded significally better to the drugs than those who got only the medication and no juice. Chinese scientists that studied diabetic rabbits and the effects of Goji berries on them in 2004 found that the good cholesterol increased and the blood sugar levels went down.
In 2006 another study researced the antioxidant effects of the Goji berries on aging mice, and compared it with the effect of vitamin C. The results showed that the polysaccharides from the wholesale Goji berries helped to make up for the decline of the immune system and antioxidant enzymes. There are also some test-tube studies that indicate that the Goji berries may really be helpful in fighting cancer cell formation, but until these studies have been performed on humans we can not call them definitive, although they are very encouraging.
