Become a Paramedic Today

Have you ever dreamed of being a paramedic or an EMT? If so, there are some things that you should know before making the journey into the world of emergency medicine. Paramedics are trained in a very high-level in comparison to registered nurses. Emergency rooms physicians deliver advanced cardiac life support care when an individual is in cardiac arrest. As a paramedic, you will be trained in the ACLS certification course to render the same level of treatment that is provided by the emergency room physician to the patient who is in cardiac arrest. This is a very challenging career to say the least. You will be called upon at all hours of the day as well as into the night to render prehospital emergency care to the sick and injured. Being physically fit is an absolute must. In addition, being mentally healthy and stable is to your advantage. Exercise and a well-balanced diet will help you to achieve your goals.

The compensation and benefits that paramedics and EMTs receive are less than what most people would expect. There are many paramedics who averaged approximately $40,000 per year annually. Their insurance is usually paid for by the county government or the fire department. This isn’t always the case for each paramedic or EMT. Some county governments charge paramedics approximately $400 per month to provide insurance coverage for them as well as their family. Therefore, if you choose to come into the emergency medical field, you can expect to work a second job more often than not in order to support your family. The love of the job is the most rewarding component of becoming an emergency medical technician. For those of you who are looking for long-term security and greater financial gain, emergency medical services is definitely not a field or career you should consider. As a final note, throughout the northeastern United States, most of the fire departments and EMS divisions are mostly volunteers. So even if you become a paramedic or an EMT, there may not be a job available for you.
